I've found that true friends stick. Also, the place you're leaving is still with you, as things will constantly remind your of that lunch in the break-room with your team, where you laughed so much it hurt - or of that stressful day when things were overwhelming but your co-workers held you up and offered support.
You will remember the times you were injured or ill and your work team showed you love and encouragement and whispered your name to the universe - in an attempt to help you heal.
Life goes by so quickly and we often find ourselves frustrated that there is so little time outside of work to focus on family or hobbies, or to just organize our personal lives. As frustrating as it can be, we notice when we're on vacation that we miss our co-workers, so we send them a picture or text to pull them back into our day.I'm blessed to be a part of such a work group and I'm so thankful every day that I was given the opportunity that led me to be in this position that fills my work life (and my personal time) with so much joy.
I've now been in my "new" job for 19 months, a relatively short time. However, in that time I've both renewed and made the most rewarding friendships. Now I find that I'm already having to say goodbye to people who have come to mean so much to me. This time I'm not leaving, but they are. Some are retiring and some are choosing to be full time mothers, or grab an opportunity that will allow them more growth.
The thing is, wherever they go, or for whatever reason, they will always know that they're still thought of and missed, and mostly, that the contributions they made will have a lasting impact on their former co-workers and all the people they helped.
Most people look forward to retirement, and I am in that group. But for at least several more years I've got something to look forward to in the job that I have, with the team that I'm a part of.
